Boston Furniture Design

Boston Furniture Design

Boston Furniture Design is a family owned and operated business, specializing in custom upholstery for commercial and residential spaces. They approached me to help them design and develop a web presence to help them increase their visibility and attain traction in the marketplace. It was a pleasure working with them and between their great work and attention to detail we were able to whip up an amazing website.

Simplicity was key here. We wanted to showcase their work and give the consumer the information they needed to get started without any interruptions. We used straight HMTL and hand coded CSS to achieve this. I created a simple jQuery image gallery for the commercial and residential sections to showcase some of their work. The site gives them a great starting off point and leaves room for expansion as their business grows.

Summer Roadtrips via social media

The Sears Auto Team at A&G is excited to announce that after many months of preparing Sears Auto has now entered the social media space with, Exploring My America – Road Stories. The first phase of this campaign is a recruitment website that explains the project and allows people to apply for one of the 21 designated road trips around the country. That is where I came in. Working with the designers and team at A&G I developed and brought this registration site to life based on the comps.

The site is coded in HTML and PHP. I used Jquery for the homepage effects with the maps, the faq page, as well as for client side validation on the apply form. For the apply form – originally users were to upload their videos – for which we were using uploadify to do so. However, we decided to go with just a Youtube link instead. The form is validated via jquery and php. It writes to a database and I created a simple admin site for the brand promotions team who will be choosing the participants. All in all Sears is thrilled and excited to get started on this summer roadtrip!

*Site is no longer live as program has ended.

Email Development & Marketing

Email Example

Email marketing is a great way to capture the attention of your consumers. There are a plethora of tools out there to help aid in this process. Through my work at a&g I have been exposed to many of these for various clients and have become quite the expert with email programs such as Lyris, Fishbowl and Constant Contact – just to name a few.

Coding HTML emails is quite different then website development. Email clients do not usually support seperated CSS. A few “rules of thumb” to keep in mind include all styles must be inline, HTML tables are still king within in an email (the only time I really like to use them!) and background images are a no-no! Some best practices from a marketing standpoint to ensure your email gets delivered and read include: Personalization produces results, avoid spam filters by avoiding words that are deemed “spamable” by email clients and the best drop days are Tuesday/Wedensday am!

Just a few tidbets … more to come!

Non-Profit HTML

Ocean’s Alliance is a local non-profit research organization that focuses on whales and marine toxicology. Their old site was done more than 10 years ago and was ready for an over-haul. As part of my final project myself and my practicum team created this new site for them.

Ocean Alliance

OA (Ocean’s Alliance) had a lot of content – I am talking over 200 pages of content. We took their old site, cleaned and re-organized their content to create a new sitemap that was more streamlined and would make sense to the end user. OA also wanted to be able to edit their site and make updates. Using Dreamweaver templates we built their site so that they could use Adobe Contribute to make their updates. Additionally, some key functionality we created for them is the frontpage slideshow, the AJAX email signup (on the homepage) and some interactive interior pages including the gallery pages where we used a shadow box to really highlight their beautiful imagery. Its a great cause and we were so happy to deliver them their final product!

*Please note they have since updated their website. The link brings you to their new website which looks like it is done in wordpress.

Unique Page Layout

This site was one of my first portfolio sites. It gives all the information needed for my portfolio without leaving the homepage. The background picture is a gorgeous view from Kauai.

By using Javascript the tabs on left and the accordion menu on the right were created giving the consumer the easy ability to access all the site information without leaving this main page.
